Mary Goes to Kreutz Creek Tasting Room

winetasting.jpgIn my opinion, the worst thing that can happen on a Saturday morning is having something that I HAVE to do. I prefer to kickoff my weekends with a unstructured list of things I WANT to do. These things are usually any of the following:

  • Visit the Grower’s Market
  • Get breakfast (specifically an omelet at Market Street Grille)
  • Coffee
  • Do all of the above on foot and enjoy a walk
  • Read the paper (and many times buy some trashy celebrity magazine and a peppermint patty at the 7-11)

The rest of the day usually includes listening to a new CD (right now it’s Bloc Party) while attempting to clean my apartment and making dinner plans (although I usually get distracted by some sort of food-related or WC Dish type of project in my still-dirty apartment.)

But this past Saturday I added a new item to my WANT list. I decided I would follow up my coffee with a few good sips of wine from the newly opened Kreutz Creek Winery Tasting Room.

As I walked in the door with my friend, the owner promptly greeted us and informed us that this was a BYOF establishment. “It’s a Bring Your Own Food and we have live entertainment on the weekends.” I LOVED this. Can it get any better than being in town, having your pick of affordable and tasty wines and you can bring a smorgasboard of food from your favorite places in town? After getting an explanation on how the tasting worked I stayed with a friend to get a little taste…okay…so we had eleven tastes.

And now for a few tasting notes on Kreutz Creek…

Tastings: Free for five. $5 to taste eleven of their wines.

Just a bite: Although you can bring whatever food your stomach desires, they do have some cheese and crackers available for purchase if you suddenly remember that you do have to drive home.

Cheeses: Locally made Amish varieties available for purchase include Savory Oregano, Minced Garlic, Horseradish Cheddar and Sharp Cheddar. All varieties come in 1/2 portions for $7 (They put any leftovers in a baggie for you to enjoy later.). The Savory Oregano that I chose was a stellar accompaniment with the tastings and some salty whole-wheat crackers.

Crackers: For $3, choose the ENTIRE BOX of basic Keebler white or whole-wheat savory crackers!

Entertainment

Here’s the October line-up:

  • 10/5- Piano by Charles Miller
  • 10/6- Blues and Ragtime by Johnny Never
  • 10/12- Black Bird Society Orchestra playing 1920s-30s Pop/Jazz/Swing/Blues
  • 10/13- Rock and Roll by The Gracious
  • 10/19- Country Rock by Big Suspenders
  • 10/20- The T and E Jazz Guitar Duo playing Swing, Pop, Mainstream and Gypsy Jazz
  • 10/26- Easy Listening and Folk Music by Michelle Garza
  • 10/27- Blues and Folk by Pat Panther

The Final Dish: I’m planning to visit again ASAP to BMOF.

  1. lets get a talula's cheese plate and go back!

  2. Of course! But please bring some lamb sausages too. Actually, can you bring one of everything from Talula's?

  3. I really believe Kreutz will succedd in West Chester personally I'm not a fan of white wine but the Vidal Blanc is outstanding it is a very good citrisy wine. The Wickerton red is very smooth wine. I also enjoyed the Chambourcin a very dry yet fruity flavorful wine. I look forward to returning.

  4. awesome photo!

  5. I stopped in to Kreutz Creek Winery for a taste last weekend…and then decided to have my b-day party there next weekend! I am SOO excited! With the BYOF policy the possibilities are endless…Sprazzo has the best ice cream to complement their dessert wines (pour the wine ON it!
